🔑 How to Apply for a Delaware Permit to Purchase a Handgun

✅ Step 1: Complete a Firearms Training Course

Under 11 Del. C. § 1448D, you must complete a certified firearms training course.

✅ Step 2: Schedule Fingerprinting & Photo ID

You must complete fingerprinting with IdentoGO using the correct service code.

• Service Code: 27S8N2 (for handgun permit background checks only)

⚠️ Using the wrong code will require you to pay again for re‑fingerprinting.

✅ Step 3: Submit Your Application

You can apply online or in person.

• 🔗 Online Portal: Delaware State Police P2P Applicant Portal

• 📄 Paper applications: Available at all DSP Troop locations or at the SBI Permit to Purchase Office.

Required Documents:

• Valid photo identification

• Military orders (if applicable)

• Firearms Training Course Certificate (or proof of exemption)

📅 Processing Timeline

• The State Bureau of Identification (SBI) will issue a decision within 30 days of receiving a complete application.

• If denied, you will be notified.

• Incomplete applications will not be processed — you’ll be contacted about missing items and may resubmit once requirements are met.
